Rhinos under Pressure (2022)

According to the WWF, poaching of rhinos in South Africa has increased by an incredible 9000 percent since 2007. Black rhinos are critically endangered with an estimated population of 6000 animals across Africa. According to conservation organizations like Pro Wildlife, the wildlife trade has become the largest illegal business after drug, weapon and people smuggling. Its annual turnover is around 20 billion US dollars. Now that the increasing demand leads to the extermination of an iconic animal species, conservationists respond by taking more drastic measures. The short film "Rhinos under Pressure" (2022) was recorded in South Africa and transmitted on television by the Austrian public broadcasting company ORF.

"Dak´Art" - Nampémania Disparus Sans Visage 2022

Dak'Art (2022)

Dakar, Senegal's capital, is considered the metropolis of contemporary African art. One of the reasons for this is the art fair held in Dakar every two years since 1990: Dak'Art. From May 19 to June 21, 2022, the 14th Dak'Art took place under the motto "Out of Fire" - a reference to the major crises of the present: pandemic, climate crisis, and war. The short film Dak'Art reports on the 2022 edition of the art fair and highlights its role as a platform for encounter, confrontation, and activism. It displays art works with a special focus on Africa and includes interviews with artists and experts. One of the interviewed is Ugochukwu-Smooth Nzewi, who co-edited the book Dak'Art: The Biennale of Dakar and the Making of Contemporary African Art (2020, together with the University of Vienna's Prof. Thomas Fillitz). The film was transmitted on television by the Austrian public broadcasting company ORF.
